Certain figures become stronger when more time passes by, they become legends, and between those, we have the late Freddie Mercury, who used to be a pretty unusual character, especially for the seventies, a time that saw the creation of stars that went beyond stereotypes and offered the world groundbreaking proposals through the music.

Recently, people have not been able to forget these huge idols of music, and just like you would expect it, it had to be portrayed on a fiction film. Brian Singer, best known for working on the X-Men franchise, directs a film full of moments that will make you hit your armrests or the ground at the rhythm of the timeless hits of Queen.

The film takes Mercury as the protagonist, the story starts from the moment he becomes part of the band until his early death. Also, Bohemian Rhapsody makes its way through the various hits of the group, it explains the reason behind most of them and gives us a little look at the inner life of the excentric Freddie Mercury.

With a fast rhytmed screenplay, the film wants to offer too much and ends up forgetting a lot of details. Most of the characters are not correctly developed and there was little time for these to develop, principally constraint by the musical sequences that take most of the film running time.

The musical sequences where stunning, with fast movements and pretty fun to watch, these sequences are designed amazingly because they’re made to make you feel like you were in a concert, getting the decibels to the top and letting you and the most reserved to sing their hearts out. Obviously, every good thing comes at a high cost, in this case, it was the narrative deepness, forced to not completely elaborate most of the details it has. These details could have been worked more and they would have allowed to a more satisfying watching experience.

Freddie Mercury was such a character, that has caused fascination over millions, such a mesmerizing character doesn’t deserve to be portrayed by anyone, and I can assure you that Rami Malek is not anyone. Malek offers us an amazing acting, an accurate representation of the true personality of the lead voice of Queen, a sassy character, full of emotion and a security as high as a skyscraper. Lucy Boynton personifies Freddie’s muse, in a way that is not just honest, it also is familiar to all of us, something that makes it real, like she’s actually a true person.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a dream, it feels like entering a totally different world, the music and characters fuel this notion, they’re all so strangely different and they’re on an unbelievable story, but at the same time, a true story.

Although lacking in deep, Bohemian Rhapsody is a movie full of music known by everyone, from the youth to the oldest. Three hours full of rhythm and melodies that deserve to sing at the top of our lungs. It’s important to remember all these characters that did not just leave a mark on a lot of people, but that left a scar in our world because Freddie Mercury was born to never die, and I bet he knew it.
